Ready to turn a boring block of foam into something much more interesting?
Foam Carving 101 is a hands-on introduction to the techniques we use at Davis Graveyard to create props and scenery from foam. We’ll start with the basics, practicing carving techniques on simple 2-D shapes so you can get comfortable with the tools and learn how foam behaves.
Then we’ll move on to the main project: carving your own solid foam pumpkin! You’ll learn how to shape and texture your pumpkin, create and attach a custom stem, and use painting techniques to bring your creation to life—or afterlife.
In this class, you’ll learn:
- Basic foam carving tools and techniques
- How to carve and shape simple 2-D designs
- How to turn a solid block of foam into a dimensional pumpkin
- Techniques for creating realistic texture and details
- How to make and securely attach a custom pumpkin stem
- Painting and finishing techniques
You’ll leave class with your finished, hand-carved foam pumpkin and the basic skills you need to start creating your own foam projects at home.
